Power

Free Range 3.jpg

'Power' records & documents the power present within the ocean. The waves create thunderous noise, immense displays of power, and violent waves. These displays by nature lead to the emotions relating to the sublime theorized by Edmund Burke in his book A Philosophical Enquiry into the Origin of Our Ideas of the Sublime and Beautiful published in 1757.

“The passion caused by the great and sublime in nature, when those causes operate most powerfully, is astonishment: and astonishment is that state of the soul in which all its motions are suspended, with some degree of horror.”

(Burke 1757, A Philosophical Enquiry…, Part II, Section II)
